yummy treat share
From popsicles to ice cream, fruit sprinkled with tahin, to blended drinks; the summer months provide a wonderful time for indulgent treats and eats! In this spirit of the season, team rootid is sharing some of the things their favorites; ENJOY!

  • Val Neumark Mickela: ”I think frozen lemonade is my number 1!
  • Bob Gourley: “Currently, homemade ice pops. Just pureed fruit/berries (no sugar added) put into silicone molds. I also really like Del's frozen lemonade but just can't find anything comparable to it here (it's strange that it never made its way to the NYC area.)”
  • Marcus Cinque-Harris: “as a kid... italian ice (aka water ice)...  specifically rainbow flavor
  • Soy Pak-Krisher: “watermelon strawberry smoothie : blend watermelon chunks, strawberries with the tops on, mint, lime juice ! NOTE to not add too much mint or else it turns the smoothie kind of an ugly color. still tastes good tho =)”
  • Anjali Mehta: “I really love strawberry shortcakes, either with whipped cream or ice-cream and watermelon cut up in halves so it looks like smiles.

nelson mandela!

What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.”

new series coming this september
Allyship & You!

2022 has reached the halfway point and and rootid is continuing to elevate the conversation around what it means to truly show up for members of the community. Classism, sizeism; ableism; there is no shortage of social-isms. However, there are many other social "-isms" that plague our society and interfere with the everyday lives of many people.

Rootid is pleased to announce our upcoming Allyship Series taking place during the month of September. This three session series will provide a safe space to further explore:

  • what it means to show up for others
  • how to recover when you inevitably say the wrong thing
  • how nonprofit philanthropy still needs work
  • the difference between allyship and solidarity

We know that this can be a sensitive area for some, so we are bringing in a panel of experts to ground us as we move through this series and provide attendees with the tools, wording and practices to allow you to show up for yourself and others.

KPIs That Perpetuate Equity
by Anjali Mehta

Every organization approaches KPIs differently. Some organizations have been meaning to start this process but haven’t gotten around to it; for those organizations...we’ve got you!

Before we begin, I thought it’d be fitting to present a glossary of terms for your reference...

What do you do at rootid?
I'm a graphic designer. I create visual concepts to communicate information. I enjoy working with clients to articulate and refine their ideas visually and strive to make them feel seen, heard, and understood.

Which of rootid's values resonates with you most?
It would be community-led breakthroughs. Safe spaces nurture meaningful connections, and a sense of belonging is a shared human experience. When these things come together, we begin to understand how we are truly more alike than different. Because when it comes down to it, we are all human.

What is your favorite thing about working at rootid?
The culture and the people. It's a culture of intelligence, unpretentiousness, compassion, sincerity, and inclusiveness. Rootid walks the talk. You feel seen, heard, and accepted just the way you are. I also love the quirkiness.

Please share something that you admire/appreciate about a fellow rootid team member.
I admire Sia's enthusiasm and quick wit. She is such a naturally charismatic and engaging facilitator.

Share a lesson learned from your work with clients here at rootid?
The impact and power of a story and how it can connect us all.

What’s your all-time favorite book?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. His simple but eloquent words about the universal quest and search for meaning and purpose in life are, I think, timelessly relatable. My favorite quote from the book:
"We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity."

What’s your favorite holiday?
Halloween because I enjoy making costumes.

What is your superpower?
Playing music by ear.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?
Grace Note
