Summer is an opportunity to rest and recharge — hopefully, take a break (a huge privilege) from the doom cycle, and enjoy the simple joys of summer — popsicles, swimming and being surrounded by those who help us internalize the warm summer hug. When we take care of ourselves, we can better care for our communities and world.

At rootid, we’re piloting Summer Fridays to see how well we do working one less day with the hopes we can make the official transition to a 4-day work week in 2027 (yes, we know…that’s a ways away!). We’d be happy to share our learnings if this is something you’d like to pilot at your organization.

For our team summer has meant time for healing, spending much needed time outdoors — staring at trees and moving bodies of water and traveling locally and internationally.

May the remaining few weeks of summer be filled with restorative joy for us all.

In community,

the rootid team

“As communicators, our words have the potential to be a catalyst for transformative change. When we are more intentional with our words and actions—connecting authentically with the principles that drive us—we inspire our community members to engage and donate based on shared values and beliefs rather than saviorism, fear, or urgency."

We’ve been writing up a storm! In case you missed the posts, here are some of the biggest hits:

We’ve been busy the past few months and are excited to share some of the projects we’ve been working on!

ACLU of Northern California has been a long-time partner of ours. Last year they reached out to us to help them design their Annual Report. The Annual Report was published on their website and received a Badge of Distinction from The Communicator Awards!

Additionally, we designed and launched their Racial Justice Act database
. The Racial Justice Act is a California law which prohibits the State from pursuing convictions or sentences based upon race, ethnicity or national origin. For the RJA to be effective, the public must be able to access policies and data from prosecutors. But this information — which should be readily available — is often difficult to obtain. So, the new database allows all Californians to access this important information, and is an incredibly valuable resource to lawyers and advocates across the state.

Val is heading to Kansas City to rep rootid at ComNet this October! They’ll be presenting a poster on Shifting Culture & Strengthening Communications: Power Mapping for More Connected Partnerships. Will we see you there?

Reach out to Val if you want to connect in Kansas City!
